Day Two

Well today was a very busy day! We met with some of the elders this morning around 9am. They have a meeting every Tuesday morning just to kind of discuss what all is going on during the week. There were about nine people there total. It was good to meet everyone, but it was nothing too exciting.
Shortly after the meeting we all drove over to a place in Sherman to check out a possible service project. Next week we are having Servin' Safari which is basically just two days of nonstop service projects. The thing that we will actually be doing is repairing a playground in a worn down part of town. It is in pretty poor shape and could be really dangerous for the kids to play on. We met two other youth ministers from other churches in the area and we scoped out the place and talked about what needed to be done. We spoke with the person in charge there and got it all lined up for us to come next week. I think it will be neat to see it all when we are finished! Just a fresh coat of paint would make the place look a lot better. Once we left there we all went out to eat at Applebees. We had a good time sitting around visiting with everyone. I think the waitress was ready for us to leave because we just kept talking and having a good time well after everyone had finished eating! It was a lot of fun.
After that Matt and I went back to the office to work on some things. I am in charge of keeping up with all of the applications for camps and keeping record of who signed up and whether or not they have paid. I had a huge stack of applications for three different camps and for Servin' Safari. I had to plug it all into a spreadsheet and just get it kind of organized from the start so that I can keep up with it all.
Later we went through old curriculums so we could see what had already been done. I will be in charge of teaching a girls class on Sunday nights, and Matt will be teaching the Wednesday night classes. We went through a lot of books so that took a while. Wes came and visited with us for a while about classes and how they would be split up and so on. Then we all went to Lifeway to see if we could find something to use for our classes. Matt couldn't find anything for his guy's class but I found a really cool book for my class. I will tell more about it as I study it a little more. I think it will be a lot of fun though, and I think (and hope) that the girls will enjoy it!
Tomorrow there is a thing called PAWS (Park Avenue Wednesday Supper) and they have it once a month. Apparently some guy has a cooker the size of a trailer house... Wes hasn't stopped talking about it yet! Anyway we are having hamburgers and hot dogs so Matt and I went to Sams to get all of the stuff. We got 90 hamburger patties, 90 hot dogs, buns, condiments, chips, 150 soft drinks... and whatever else you can think of! We got quite a few funny looks for having so much food on our cart! When we left there we took all the food back up to the church building and put it all away.
Once we finished everything up at the building we went back over to Wes & Naomi's house because they were cooking us supper. Matt and I just sat around and played with the girls. They are sooo much fun and so full of energy. They never get tired, I don't think. Wes cooked pork chops and Naomi made shish kabobs and fruit salad and rolls. It was wonderful! I loved the fruit salad, surprisingly enough.
After dinner Matt and I went over to his friend's house where Matt is staying. There were quite a few people over there so we just kind of hung out and visited for a while. Then we watched a DVD of an Alison Krauss concert which I thought was pretty random, but it was a good show! We hung out there for a little while then I came back here to get some rest.
Today was a good day, but also a very tiring day! Wes warned us tonight that tomorrow will be VERY busy as well. We are going in around 9:30am and probably not leaving until about 10:00pm! We have a lot of meetings and a lot of planning to do tomorrow so it is going to be a long day!
I know this whole thing is basically just a play by play of my day, so I hope its not too boring! Things are really going to start picking up here in the next few days so I should have some good stories to tell! Thursday is the last day of school here so I'm sure that is when a lot of it will start.
Ok well I'm off to bed to prepare for another day!
