4 Months Old

Joanna Frances Porter
4 Months

  • She sleeps all night, usually 9-11 hours straight. We are thankful for her sleep habits! She takes a 2-3 hour nap around lunch time most days, then smaller naps throughout the day.
  • She caught her first cold on her 4-month birthday. Matt and I felt so helpless. She had a fever, a snotty nose, and a pesky cough. Thankfully she seems to be getting a little better every day.
  • She loves to talk! Overall, she is a fairly quiet baby, but when she gets going, she is extra silly! She gurgles and squeals and makes all sorts of goofy noises. She has laughed once, and I immediately started crying and doing everything I could do get her to do it again, but she hasn't done it again. Let me tell you, though, it is the cutest sound in the whole world.
  • We still swaddle her and put her in her sleeper at night, but during the day, she usually naps on her belly in the crib.
  • She does a great job of supporting herself when on her belly, but still really doesn't like tummy time. She hasn't rolled over from her belly to her back yet, but we're working on it, and she definitely seems to be getting the motion down! I think she will be happy once she figures it out since she doesn't particularly like being on her belly.
  • She still nurses for 10-15 minutes every 2-3 hours during the day.
  • She is a very happy baby. She has the sweetest smiles!
  • She loves her orange ball toy. She loves to put it in her mouth, look at it, and bat it around when we hang it from her play mat. That is definitely her favorite toy!
  • She still loves being outside, and we've had a few cooler days lately where we've been able to actually ENJOY being outside for longer than 5 minutes! We are definitely looking forward to fall!
  • She has strong legs! I told everyone that when I was still pregnant (and I felt her strong legs from the inside!), and it is still true today. She likes to stand up in our laps and smile at us like she knows she is cute!
  • I think I can see two little teeth below her gums. It's hard to tell, and I certainly can't feel them yet, but it looks like they are there! I read that it can still be a while before they break through, though.

    Cherry Creek Park

We took Joanna to the park to walk and enjoy the slightly cooler weather (meaning, not 100+ degrees - it was still hot!). She loves being outside!

    Horseback Riding

We went to Circle Star, which is where we got Penny, and where she went through her training, for an event they were having. While Penny tried out the swimming pool and played with other dogs, Joanna rode a horse! She wasn't one bit scared, and loved just watching the horse and taking everything in!
