Just TRY to break into my car...

As I mentioned before, Matt and I just got back into Austin yesterday (Wednesday). I had missed driving my car (since we left it here) so I was ready to drive it to church that night. We went to get in and noticed there were little black things COVERING my driver side seat and floorboard. It looked like tiny pieces of shredded rubber. It was already dark outside, and we didn't have much time to spare so we decided to just take Matt's truck and check out my car in the morning when we could see better. Later that night, curiosity got the best of Matt and he went back out to my car with a flashlight to see if he could figure out where it was coming from. In the meantime, Mike and Cindy told us that they had noticed it as well when they were moving my car. Cindy said she swept out the stuff that was there, but apparently more had shown up. Matt said it looked like the insulation was falling from the headliner in my car, but we didn't know why. Matt came inside and looked up some stuff online to see if he could find any answers. Most of the stories he found were of people with the same problem... and the culprit was the same every time... a mouse!

I called my dad this morning and explained what we saw and he also said that it could be a mouse in my dash or something. As strange as we thought that was, we went to the store and got some traps to set inside my car. No more of the insulation fell for the rest of the day, and every time we checked, the traps were empty. We weren't really expecting to catch anything, but we couldn't imagine what was causing the insulation to fall out. Plus, this doesn't seem like the kind of neighborhood to have a lot of little mice running around. Anyway, we thought that if there ever WAS a mouse... it wasn't there anymore.

Well, tonight we went over to a friend's house to watch the football game. We didn't get back to the Bright's until after midnight. We were both tired, so Matt was just going to drop me off then go back to his place. When we pulled up he decided he'd get out and check the traps, even though we weren't expecting anything. He walked over on one side where he could see 2 of the 3 traps and didn't see anything. Then he went and checked the third and just froze and his eyes got real big. Now, he had already played this trick on me once today, so I didn't fall for it. In fact, I think my exact words were, "You're such a bad liar." He didn't move or anything and kind of had a silly grin on his face. Finally I decided to give in and check for myself, expecting a, "Made you look" from Matt, but sure enough - we caught a mouse!

It was absolutely disgusting, but pretty funny at the same time. We just really weren't expecting there to be a mouse camping out in my car! Matt said he was thankful that it didn't jump out at him in the dark last night because, "you would've heard me scream like a girl!" :) He didn't like it, but he was nice enough to get it out of my car for me! Now we have to get a vacuum in there to clean up the little bits of insulation and make sure that little critter didn't chew up any wires or anything!

After all of that excitement, Matt said, "Well I'm not tired anymore!" So now it is after 1:00am and I am typing up a gross story that most of you probably don't care to know, and Matt is trying to beat his own record on a shooting game on Wii. :)

Well, you saw the pictures... so that should be warning enough that you don't want to test me and try to break into my car!!! :) Again, it is pretty disgusting, but (now that its dead) we thought it was pretty strange and somewhat amusing, so we thought we'd share. I know you are all grateful. :)

Wow! It was worth such a long wait to get such an exciting story! Only YOU would get a mouse in your CAR! Glad the mystery is solved.
